Journal Activity in 2011 (Volume 75)
In 2011 the Journal celebrated its 75th year of publication. The Journal was started in 1937under the editorship of Rufus. A. Lyman. Fourteen articles from the early decades of the Journal were republished this past year. The Journal and all those who have contributed to it, including authors, reviewers, editors, and AACP staff members, were recognized at the AACP Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas, in July 2011.
The Journal Web site underwent a major renovation that was unveiled in August 2011. The Journal is now hosted by Atypon, home to such prestigious publications as the New England Journal of Medicine. The Journal has a new look and functional improvements such as enhanced navigation, reader comments, supplementary content (video, audio, text), advanced search capabilities, extensive reference linking, and e-mail alerts to readers, as well as a suite of administrative tools that allow the editorial office more control over site content.
Seven new Editorial Board members were appointed in 2011 for 3-year terms: Eric Boyce (Pacific), Stuart Haines (Maryland), Mohamed Azmi Ahmad Hassali (University Sains Malaysia), Jennifer Marriott (Monash University), Susan Meyer (Pittsburgh), Adam Persky (North Carolina), and Anna Ratka (Texas A&M). Sue Burton (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) and Deborah Harper-Brown (Chicago State) were reappointed to the Board for a second 3-year term.
Each year the best paper published in the Journal is recognized with the Rufus A. Lyman Award. Papers are selected based on utility and significance to pharmacy education, originality, research methodology, and writing style. The Lyman Award Committee, which is appointed by the AACP President and chaired by the Journal Editor, selected the top paper. Twenty-nine papers from volume 75 were nominated for the Lyman Award and the award winning paper was ‘“Cross-Validation of an Instrument for Measuring Professionalism Behaviors” by Katherine A. Kelley (Ohio State), Luke D. Stanke (Minnesota), Suzanne M. Rabi (Illinois-Chicago), Sarah E. Kuba (Wisconsin – Madison), and Kristin K. Janke (Minnesota).
The Editor is indebted to Associate Editors Gayle Brazeau, Jack Fincham, and Claire Anderson, Senior Assistant Editor Karen Shipp, the Editorial Board Members, the manuscript and book reviewers, and the AACP Board of Directors and staff for their efforts and support. The success of the Journal is dependent on the continued diligent and dedicated efforts of these individuals.
