This report is a compilation of activity and statistics for the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education for 2012 (Volume 76). The Journal is published in electronic format at www.ajpe.org. A print edition of the entire volume also was produced and will be sent to all American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) member institutions and paid subscribers. One hundred fifty peer-reviewed manuscripts were published in 10 issues of volume 76, including a theme issue on experiential education. Viewpoints, Letters, Addresses, Reports, Book Reviews, and other material (Table 1) also were published. Three-hundred ninety-one manuscripts were submitted to the Journal, an increase of 25% from the previous year. Of these, 42% were accepted for publication. Approximately 450 individuals served as manuscript and book reviewers in 2012.
Journal Activity in 2012 (Volume 76)
Three new Editorial Board members were appointed in 2012 for 3-year terms: Patrick Hardigan (Nova Southeastern), Terri Poirier (Southern Illinois Edwardsville), and Julie Szilagyi (Houston). Zubin Austin (Toronto), Sudip Das (Butler), Gary DeLander (Oregon State), JoLaine Draugalis (Oklahoma), Harold Kirschenbaum (Long Island), and Frank Romanelli (Kentucky) were reappointed to the Board for a 3-year term.
Each year the best paper published in the Journal is recognized with the Rufus A. Lyman Award. The winner is selected based on utility and significance to pharmacy education, originality, research methodology, and writing style. The Lyman Award Committee, which is appointed by the AACP President and chaired by the Journal Editor, selects the top paper. From volume 76, 29 papers were nominated for the Lyman Award and the Award winning article was “An Introductory Interprofessional Exercise for Healthcare Students” by Celia P. MacDonnell, Saumitra V. Rege, Kara Misto, and Richard Dollase of the University of Rhode Island, and Paul George, of Brown University.
The Editor is indebted to Associate Editors Gayle Brazeau, Jack Fincham, and Claire Anderson, Senior Assistant Editor Karen Shipp, the Editorial Board Members, the manuscript and book reviewers, and the AACP Board of Directors and staff for their continued efforts and support. The success of the Journal is dependent on the diligent and dedicated efforts of these individuals.
