One hundred fifty peer-reviewed manuscripts were published in 10 issues of volume 77, including theme issues on Charting Accreditation’s Future and Student Leadership. Viewpoints, Letters, Addresses, Reports, Book Reviews, and other material (Table 1) also were published. Three-hundred ninety-one manuscripts were submitted to the Journal in 2013. Of these, 42% were accepted for publication. Approximately 450 individuals served as manuscript and book reviewers in 2013.
Journal Activity in 2013 (Volume 77)
Two new Editorial Board members were appointed in 2013 for 3-year terms: Margatita DiVall (Northeastern) and Tyler Rose (Roseman). Naser Alsharif (Creighton), Alicia Bouldin (Mississippi), Brent Fox (Auburn), and Peter Hurd (St. Louis) were reappointed to the Board for a 3-year term.
Each year the best paper published in the Journal is recognized with the Rufus A. Lyman Award. The winner is selected based on utility and significance to pharmacy education, originality, research methodology, and writing style. The Lyman Award Committee, which is appointed by the AACP President and chaired by the Journal Editor, selects the top paper. Thirty-three papers from volume 77 were nominated for the Lyman Award and the award winning article was “Development and Validation of the Student Perceptions of Physician-Pharmacist Interprofessional Clinical Education (SPICE) Instrument” by David S. Fike (University of Incarnate Word), Joseph A. Zorek (University of Wisconsin), Anitra A. MacLaughlin (School of Pharmacy, Texas Tech University and Hereford Pharmacy), Mohammed Samiuddin, Rodney B. Young, and Eric J. MacLaughlin (Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine, Texas Tech University).
The Editor is indebted to Associate Editors Gayle Brazeau, Jack Fincham, Claire Anderson, and Frank Romanelli, Senior Assistant Editor Karen Shipp, Assistant Editor Paula Markevicz, the Editorial Board Members, the manuscript and book reviewers, and the AACP Board of Directors and staff for their continued efforts and support. The success of the Journal is dependent on the diligent and dedicated efforts of these individuals. This is my final report as Editor. At the time of this writing we are in the process of transitioning the editorial office to Dr. Gayle Brazeau at the University of New England.
