Journal Activity in 2016 (Volume 80)
The Journal has established three-year term limits for its editorial board members, with a possible renewal for a second three-year term. This will enable the Journal to optimize the talents and interests of American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) members. Editorial board members are chosen based upon their interest and involvement with the Journal as authors and reviewers.
Associate editors and editorial board members worked on two projects for the Journal. One was a revision of the Journal’s manuscript categories, which are now Reviews, Research, Research Briefs, Educational Briefs, and Commentaries. The second project focused on revising and enhancing the instructions to authors with specific information on the organization of the manuscripts and format for tables and figures. These changes were introduced in the Journal last fall, and we have been working closely with authors in implementing these categories and manuscript formats.
At the July 2016 AACP Annual Meeting held at the Anaheim Marriott/Anaheim Convention Center, the editorial team hosted the second annual Joseph T. DiPiro Excellence in Publishing Workshop. The workshop provided authors an overview of the essentials of excellence when submitting manuscripts to AJPE. The workshop also included breakout sessions, during which authors were able to discuss specific issues with the editorial team. There were 58 individuals who attended the workshop.
Each year, the best paper published in the Journal is recognized with the Rufus A. Lyman Award. The winner is selected based on utility and significance to pharmacy education, originality, research methodology, and writing style. The Lyman Award Committee, which is appointed by the AACP president and chaired by the Journal editor, selects the top paper. Twenty-one papers from Volume 80 were nominated for the Lyman Award, and the winning article was “Development and Application of a Stepwise Assessment Process for Rational Redesign of Sequential Skills-Based Courses” by Casey E. Gallimore, PharmD, MS, Andrea L. Porter, PharmD, and Susanne G. Barnett, PharmD, of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy.
The editor remains indebted and thankful for all the associate editors, editorial board members, manuscript reviewers, authors and the AACP Board of Directors and staff for their continued efforts and support. The success of the Journal is dependent on the diligent and dedicated efforts of these individuals.
