Journal Activity in 2021
The editorial team held its fourth meeting in November 2021 for 1½ days with members attending in person or virtually. At this meeting we reviewed the performance of the Journal’s production vendor, workflow and other publication strategies, volume schedule and journal metrics, journal activities (Task Forces, Lyman selection process, activities at the 2022 annual meeting) and the Journal’s role in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Journal Task Force activities for 2021 were focused on continuing the development of a reviewer mentorship program, production of Journal-sponsored webinars, and development of a special article to provide author guidance on qualitative research.
Each year, the best paper published in the Journal in the previous year is recognized with the Rufus A. Lyman Award. The 2022 Rufus A. Lyman Award was given to “Addressing the Need for Ethnic and Racial Diversity in the Pipeline for Pharmacy Faculty” (Am J Pharm Educ 2021;8(9):Article 8586), authored by Hope E. Campbell (Belmont University), Angela M. Hagan (Belmont University), and Caroline A. Gaither (University of Minnesota). (The article is available at the following link: https://www.ajpe.org/content/ajpe/85/9/8586.full.pdf). This manuscript was chosen from among 19 outstanding papers published in 2021 and nominated for the 2022 Lyman Award because it met all the award criteria, specifically in the areas of utility and significance to pharmacy education, originality, research methodology, writing style, and quality of the figures and graphs. The 2022 Selection Committee members were Jeanne Frenzel (North Dakota State University), Michael A. Hegener (University of Cincinnati), Jamie Kellar (University of Toronto), Kristin K. Janke (University of Minnesota), Angela Shogbon Nwaesei (Mercer University), and Prashant Sakharkar (Roosevelt University).
