Program Timeline
- Step 1: July: Initial in-person meeting at AACP Annual Meeting
All program participants will be invited to a 60-minute meet-n-greet session at AACP’s Annual Meeting in July to welcome the incoming cohort. Mentors and Mentees will meet their partner(s), review program expectations, participate in networking activities and hear from the AJPE Editorial Advisory Board members who developed the program. Mentors and Mentees will have the opportunity to set up monthly meetings; each pair is expected to meet at least once a month until program completion.
- Step 2: July - August: Elsevier Researcher Academy
Mentees will complete a free 3-hour self-paced reviewer training program with certification. It is designed to give those who have never peer-reviewed a manuscript as well as those who feel they would like additional training in this area the skills and confidence to accept and complete a review. This step is mandatory for mentees and encouraged but not required for mentors.
- Step 3: September - February: Web of Science Academy
Mentors and Mentees will register for a free account to enroll in the Web of Science’s co-reviewing courses, following the respective modules for mentors and mentees. During these courses, Mentor and Mentee pairs will meet (virtually or in-person) independently to complete the “co-reviewing with a mentor” module.
- Step 4: March - July: AJPE Capstone Project
Mentee and Mentor pairs work together on a “Capstone Project” in which the Mentee reviews two actual AJPE submissions along with other editor/reviewer-related responsibilities (eg, reach out to potential reviewers). AJPE will provide blind copies of good examples of papers/reviews prior to the Mentee beginning their Capstone. The Mentor determines whether their Mentee successfully completes each step of the RMP. After completion of the AJPE Capstone Project, the Mentee will become an RMP graduate.
- Step 5: July: Recognition and Certification at AACP Annual Meeting
Mentees who graduate will be recognized across AACP and AJPE social channels and receive a certificate at the subsequent AACP Annual Meeting.
